BRUNA TRUFFA

She begins her foray into art in the 80s, starting from the pictorial. The city of Arica, where she was born in 1963, exerts an influence through color and the neo-baroque search for crosses and transnational figures. When she settled in Santiago, she created, together with Rodrigo Cabezas and Sebastián Leyton, the Cabezas + Truffa + Leyton (1986-1998) collective, who developed a satirical and critical language against the new consumer culture. With a methodology of collection and appropriation of iconographic material that she continues doing until today, Truffa moves through the figuration, new timelines in the Chilean landscape, which problematize gender and identity.

In her works, gender and landscape are conceived as an integral reality. In the individual exhibition, Domestic Territory, carried out in 2016 in Animal Gallery, through traditional techniques such as “artisanal”, she focuses on the character of the “feminine and the house”, to be understood as civilizational concepts, of domestication and repetition. In her latest projects, she works on the issue of immigrant women and the territory of nature, as entities and subjects belonging to extractive economic realities; raw and at the same time utopian.
